Awards and Evaluation Guidelines

Five awards will be granted in each category (student, emerging pro, and professional)

Three overall Special Recognition awards will be presented for all three categories. 

Recognized for creativity. Presented to the artists who demonstrate exceptional creativity in the presentation and execution of their act. The panel will choose an artist who performs unique transitions, creates an innovative storyline, or displays courage in pushing the boundaries of their discipline.

Recognized for technical skill. Presented to the artists who demonstrate a strong technical foundation in their movement. Strong and clean execution of technical skills, as well as a high skill level, are recognized by the panel through this award.

Recognized for overall assembly and presentation. Presented to the artists who demonstrate fluidity and creativity in the converging of every act element, including costume, music, concept/story, artistic exploration, technical skills, character development/presentation, etc. This act will be recognized as captivating and influential by the panel.

Presented to the artists with the highest number of votes by the audience.

Awarded to an up-and-coming artist.

• Spotlight Award, presented by CircusTalk 
•      Spotlight Award recognizes an emerging artist whose work  demonstrates courageous expression and whose performance is lauded for its social relevance, artistic and technical acumen, and audience engagement.
• The One to Watch, presented by San Diego Circus Center
